Q&A: SHOULD 'CHUCK' GET A SEASON 5, THEN END?

The latest Chuck Season 5 renewal discussion from TV Guide:

Q: I was wondering if you might weigh in on my favorite on-the-bubble show Chuck, which is still a steady, if not great, performer. With the cancellations or not-so-great prospects of several NBC shows like Undercovers, Chase, The Cape, The Event, etc., do you feel it bodes well for the chances of renewal as well? — Scott

A: Chuck really is the little show that could, isn't it? There will never be a time when Chuck doesn't live on the proverbial bubble, but it has the great fortune of enjoying the sort of fan and (in some corners) media buzz that NBC lacks nearly everywhere else. So you're right that NBC's continued ill fortunes in prime time very likely means Chuck could get that all-important fifth season — although at that point, I think it will be time to call it a wrap. One argument working against its renewal: There's a new programming team in place at NBC, and depending on how drastically they want to wipe the slate clean, Chuck could be more vulnerable than we think. But if I had to bet, I'd say Chuck gets one more season, and then that's it.

Chuck can definately survive a 5th season - there is alot that has not been expressed on the show - storylines that need some closure -With the change in writers is where Chuck stands to lose big time - Chuck has lost several decent writer's that have made the show what it is but lately the writer's are missing the mark on so many levels - from romance to missions to quirky lines from Chuck - Chuck was in it's prime in S1&2 then the first 1/2 of S3 failed and luckily they were able to save Chuck - S4 has been a hit and miss with the writer's storylines/dialogue and the dynamics of Zach and Yvonne have failed where's the spark - YET THERE STILL MY FAVOURITE - there abilities are being wasted - they look like an old married couple not a couple just about to get married, Casey's grunts where have they gone etc..... each NEW writer that write fails to see where these characters have come from how they have evolved - if there is to be a 5th season oh please yes - please look back at what worked and what made CHuck Chuck then combine with the new to make it as good as S1 and S2 - change is good but you need to remember where it all came from IF CHUCK IS TO SURVIVE A 5TH.....

chuck has many seasons left if the writers can get it together. 250 or more episodes can be made before ending the show easily!!! Their spyies, their in love, possible missions are endless. Please get it together writers! THIS IS ONE GREAT SHOW!!!!!, DON'T BLOW IT!!! ZACK AND YVONNE NEED TO TAKE CHARGE OF THIS SHOWS STAFFING! THEY KNOW WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT!!!

I for one think that this is the right thing to happen. Don't get me wrong, I am a MASSIVE chuck fan and I think that it is still delivering some of the best hours on tv, and consistently also. However, if a proper end date is set then the writers can plan a proper ending to the show, and to the characters story. With a show such as Chuck, i.e. one that is primarily character driven, the worst possible thing that could happen is for it to end without closure, which gets more and more likely for any show as the seasons go on, let alone one that has been on the edge of cancellation for 4 consecutive years. As fans and loyal viewers, we deserve a proper ending, one that lives up to the rest of all that has come before. We don't want it to just fizzle out 2 or 3 years down the line when it will undoubtedly be delivering disappointing episodes more frequently than it does great ones. So, give it a fifth season (and a full one, seriously we need at least one more season apart from 2 where we don't build to a climax half way through and then have to go through momentum building again), make it epic, and make it the end that fans deserver.

I think it's kinda time for Chuck to be laid down to rest. I mean Chuck has found his father and mother, told his secret to his close ones, he has become a spy and he's got the girl of his dreams( and the rest of us :D). NBC has given our show alot and it's been a hell of a ride IMO. But like Iheskin said I'm starting to sense that the more the show goes the less Chuckier it gets. No more fun bro stuff with Morgan, no more geekish trying to impress Sarah, no more fun buy more, no more screwups just not what used to make the show so great. If this is to continue plz lay our beloved show to rest IMO. But if they succeed in bringing the fun back I will enjoy future seasons. Cheers!

i agree!
a fifth season would make my life a better place, but i think after that, a season 6 would just be boring as great as the writers may be, there isnt much you can do in a 6th season

I would be fine with ending the show after the 5th season. I'm not saying that I ever want Chuck to end, but realistically it has to. And wouldn't it be better for it to end when we all know it's going to, rather than get cancelled before it could be wrapped up properly? I certainly think so.

One more season sounds about right. IMO, the show peaked in season 2. It's still entertaining but not as good as it once was. Better to leave a little too soon than too late.

As long as Chuck gets at least one more season, I am fine, they cant end the series like this, although the last 2 episodes I thought reminded me of the old chuck we know and love

It's so strange to hear that Chuck may get a fifth season and then it ends. Because I am so used to it that I just can't imagine my life&Mondays without it.. kinda sad to realize that it MUST end someday.. :(
Can you imgaine you everyday life without Zachary,Yvonne,Joshua etc. in your TV? Where else we'll se them? Makes me wonder..

"Q&A: SHOULD 'CHUCK' GET A SEASON 5, THEN END?"

Should the CIA have ended at Glasnost - don't think so. OK, this might not reach everyone, but when it comes down to it this has a following. My only regret is that sometimes theres a longish gap between seasons. I'd say the same for Firefly and Jericho, both of which were prematurely cut dead.

I think it's time people woke up to the fact that the interntaional market likes some of your stuff, and you are failing to keep track. Instead we (i.e non region-1 DVD)have to pirate it a lot of the time, because you consider it unviable. A big company hasn't released the Lion King in this region since the original release, and he was French!
